Greece has several lakes, most of which are located in its mainland. The lake with the greatest surface is Trichonida. The largest lakes in Greece are:
Lake Kremasta (68.531 square metres) and Lake Polyfytos (56.793 square metres) are artificial lakes which were created mainly for electricity generation, while Lake Mornos, Lake Marathon and Lake Yliki provide water to Athens.
